Labels

Create and print custom labels for products, bins, and packages.

Labels

SimpleWMS includes a label management system for creating and printing custom labels. Use labels for product identification, bin locations, shipping, and more.

Label Templates

Label templates define the layout and content of your printed labels. Templates are reusable and can include dynamic fields that populate with data at print time.

Viewing Templates

  1. Navigate to Templates from the sidebar
  2. Browse existing label templates
  3. Filter by type or search by name
  4. Click a template to view or edit

Creating a Template

  1. Navigate to Templates
  2. Click Add to create a new template
  3. Configure the template:
    • Name: Descriptive template name
    • Type: Product, Bin, Package, or Custom
    • Size: Label dimensions
    • Layout: Arrange fields and content
  4. Save the template

Template Types

SimpleWMS supports several label types:

Dynamic Fields

Labels can include dynamic fields that populate with actual data when printed.

Available Fields

Product labels can include:

  • Product name
  • Product code / SKU
  • Barcode (various formats)
  • Unit of measure
  • Lot number
  • Expiration date
  • Custom metadata fields

Bin labels can include:

  • Bin code
  • Shelf reference
  • Area name
  • Warehouse name
  • Location barcode

Product Metadata Fields

Custom metadata fields from products can be used in labels. View available fields via the Product Metadata Fields option when editing templates.

Printing Labels

  1. Navigate to Templates
  2. Select a template
  3. Click Print
  4. Choose the data source (product, bin, etc.)
  5. Specify quantity
  6. Print to your label printer

Labels can also be printed directly from:

  • Products: Print product labels
  • Bins: Print location labels
  • Packages: Print package labels
  • Orders: Print shipping labels

Printer Setup

SimpleWMS generates labels for standard label printers. Configure your printer:

  1. Ensure the printer is connected and available
  2. Set the correct label size in printer settings
  3. Calibrate the printer for your label stock

Label Design Tips

  1. Keep it readable: Use appropriate font sizes
  2. Include barcodes: Enable scanning for efficiency
  3. Add key identifiers: Product code, location, lot number
  4. Test print: Verify layout before bulk printing
  5. Consider durability: Use appropriate label stock for the environment

Barcode Formats

SimpleWMS supports common barcode formats:

  • Code 128: General purpose, alphanumeric
  • Code 39: Legacy compatibility
  • EAN-13: Retail products
  • QR Code: High-density 2D codes

Choose the format that matches your scanning equipment and use case.
