Manufacturing

Complete production and create finished goods inventory with lot tracking.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing process transforms picked raw materials into finished goods, creating inventory with full lot traceability.

Manufacturing Process

Overview

Once materials are picked, manufacturing:

  1. Consumes raw materials from inventory
  2. Creates finished goods inventory
  3. Assigns lot numbers and dates
  4. Establishes traceability links
  5. Records production metadata

Prerequisites

Before manufacturing:

  • Job must have status "Materials Picked"
  • All required materials must be collected
  • Destination bin must be available

Starting Manufacturing

Access Manufacturing

  1. Open a production job with picked materials
  2. Click Manufacture
  3. Enter production details
  4. Complete the operation

Manufacturing Form

Enter the following information:

Lot Number Assignment

Creating Lot Numbers

Choose a lot number that:

  • Is unique for this product
  • Follows your naming convention
  • Allows easy identification

Common patterns:

  • Date-based: 2024-01-15-001
  • Sequential: LOT-00001
  • Work order linked: WO-12345-A

Best Before Dates

For perishable products:

  • Enter the expiration date
  • System tracks for FEFO picking
  • Visible in inventory views

Destination Selection

Choosing a Bin

Select where finished goods will be stored:

  1. Browse available bins
  2. Consider:
    • Product storage requirements
    • Picking efficiency
    • Space availability
  3. Select the destination

Multiple Destinations

For large quantities:

  • Manufacture in batches
  • Assign different bins per batch
  • Maintain single lot across locations

Completing Manufacturing

Confirmation

When you complete manufacturing:

  1. Review all entered information
  2. Confirm the operation
  3. System processes:
    • Deducts raw materials
    • Creates finished goods inventory
    • Links traceability
    • Updates job progress

Results

After successful completion:

  • Inventory item created in destination bin
  • Job completion percentage updated
  • Traceability records established
  • Audit trail logged

Partial Manufacturing

Manufacturing in Batches

For large jobs, manufacture portions:

  1. Complete first batch
  2. Return to job
  3. Manufacture next batch
  4. Continue until job complete

Progress Tracking

Each manufacturing batch:

  • Adds to completion percentage
  • Can have unique lot number
  • Links to specific material picks

Traceability

What's Recorded

Manufacturing creates traceability links:

LinkDescription
Source MaterialsRaw materials consumed
Lot NumbersMaterial lot identifiers
QuantitiesAmounts used per material
Supplier BatchesOriginal supplier references

Viewing Traceability

Access traceability from:

  • Finished goods inventory item
  • Production job details
  • Lot information view

Production Metadata

Recording Notes

Capture production information:

  • Quality observations
  • Process parameters
  • Operator notes
  • Equipment used

Output Information

System records:

  • Manufacturing timestamp
  • Operator (user)
  • Quantities produced
  • Materials consumed

Error Handling

Insufficient Materials

If materials are short:

  • System prevents over-manufacturing
  • Shows available quantities
  • Suggests reduced batch size

Lot Conflicts

If lot number exists:

  • Choose a different lot number
  • Append suffix to make unique
  • Check existing lots first

Best Practices

Quality Control

  • Verify materials before processing
  • Record any quality issues
  • Use consistent lot numbering
  • Enter accurate best-before dates

Efficiency

  • Complete full batches when possible
  • Minimize partial manufacturing
  • Plan destination bins ahead
  • Verify bin capacity
